"While we jumped in sooner than planned, we've had no regrets whatsoever," says Smith. "Winnipeg was a great partner to work through the prototype with." Today four Snow Maulers are operating in Winnipeg, the company has completed its first dozen machines, and they're about to demo the Snow Mauler in Milwaukee, Buffalo, Minneapolis, Denver and Chicago. This a mere two years after embarking on the project.

Smith has this perspective on the first few years of a company's life. "You have to be prepared for some lean times. And if you're getting into a partnership, you'd better have a very good understanding of your partners and know that you're going to be able to live with each other in the tough times, because you're going to have tough times.

If you can do that, you'll be fine. If you can weather that three to five year initial period, things start to get a little bit more relaxed, and you can get on with improving what you do and get growing."
