Five steps to a winning financing presentation
Research, and rehearsal are key to an effective presentation. Use these tips to get them on your side.
1. Get to know as much as you can about the people you're meeting with.
Talk to them ahead of time. This arms you with information about their needs and expectations. And when you actually meet for the presentation, you've already "broken the ice".
2. Try and get a referral to the agency or financing firm.
If you come in recommended by a previous successful client, or by a colleague of the financier, you've already cleared the first hurdle.
3. Plan on keeping your meeting to no more than an hour.
If you keep things focussed, you shouldn't need more time. And if you go beyond an hour, meeting fatigue is bound to set in. You want to leave them excited and interested; not worn out.
4. Be concise, direct and enthusiastic.
Keep chit chat to a minimum. If you've already talked to the participants and got past the "getting acquainted" stage, this is easier. Plan your presentation with a three minute intro to the overall concept and your intent, followed by a more detailed breakdown and time for questions.
5. Use concrete, real-world examples as much as possible.
As rosy as you're projections and imaginary scenarios are, real case histories carry a lot more weight and validity.
